It is day two of Web Summit 2025.
The excitement from last night’s Opening Night is still buzzing in my head. The energy of innovators gathered from around the globe, followed by a fantastic dinner at Eat Thai, truly showcased the vibrant potential of Lisbon.
However, there is no time to dwell on sentimentality. Today is packed with sessions at the MEO Arena. To survive this long day, quality energy charging is essential. Therefore, I am sharing my experience at the Ikonik Lisboa breakfast buffet.
A Modern and Bright Morning Surprise
When I checked in late last night, I could not fully grasp the hotel’s atmosphere. The hallways and lobby felt calm, perhaps even a bit dark and moody. Consequently, I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into the breakfast venue this morning.

A stunningly bright and modern space welcomed me. Beneath the black exposed ceiling, large circular discs and white pendant lights are arranged rhythmically, creating an industrial yet warm design. The contrast was striking and immediately refreshing.

In the center of the room sits a clean, white-toned buffet counter. Thanks to the spacious layout, guests can choose their food relatively leisurely, even during busy morning hours. It felt like a perfect fusion of business hotel functionality and design hotel sensibility.
Simple Yet Satisfying: The Menu Lineup
Now, let’s look at the food. The Ikonik Lisboa breakfast style is a typical continental buffet with added hot meal options. While it may not be “lavish,” it certainly provides high-quality essentials.
Irresistible Sweets and Pastries

The first thing that catches the eye is the sweets and pastry section. The counter is beautifully lined not only with croissants and Danishes but also with triangular chocolate brownies and sliced marble cakes.
Personally, I usually feel a bit guilty about eating sweets first thing in the morning. However, in front of this display of donuts and cakes, that logic crumbled. Before a brain-draining event like Web Summit, sugar intake is arguably a necessary “strategy” (or so I tell myself).
The “PADARIA” Station

At the corner marked with the “PADARIA” (Bakery) sign, baguettes and seeded breads are presented in rustic baskets. A commercial toaster is available here, allowing you to reheat the bread to your liking.
The smell of toasted bread alone is enough to make one happy. There is also a cutting board, which is a nice touch, allowing you to slice the bread to your preferred thickness. Enjoying simple bread with plenty of jam and butter is a luxury in itself.
Balanced Cold and Hot Options
Beyond the sweets, there is a solid selection of savory meals.

The cold meal section features fresh green salad, cucumbers, and sliced ham and cheese. This is a standard lineup for European hotels, but the freshness of the vegetables is key. Juice dispensers are also located in the back, ensuring your vitamin needs are met.

Meanwhile, the hot meal corner features stainless steel chafing dishes. Let’s see what is inside.

Fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and sausages. These are the “holy trinity” of hotel breakfasts. It is not flashy, but getting warm food into your system provides a different level of comfort. The seasoning was simple, offering a stable quality that everyone can enjoy.
Self-Service Coffee Experience
Coffee, indispensable for breakfast, is served via a modern NECTA self-service machine.

You can choose your favorite menu item, such as espresso, cappuccino, or café latte, via the touch panel. The machine responds well, and the extracted coffee is aromatic and authentic. The message “Disfrute de su bebida” (Enjoy your drink) on the screen adds a little touch of Portuguese hospitality.
CityNomix’s Breakfast Plate: Tasting Report
From these options, here is the breakfast plate I assembled today.

I secured protein with scrambled eggs and ham, but I could not resist the sweet temptations. Most notably, the Portuguese specialty, “Pastel de Nata” (egg tart), was a must-have.

It might not match the freshly baked ones from a downtown café, but being able to enjoy this flavor casually at a hotel buffet is one of the joys of traveling in Portugal. The combination of crispy pie crust and rich custard cream pairs perfectly with coffee.
Looking at the “HAVE A nice day” text printed on the mug, I thought about the long day ahead. The sweetness of the donut soaked into my brain, gradually waking me up. The venue was clean, the staff moved efficiently, and I was able to spend a very comfortable morning time.
Verdict and Practical Info
The breakfast at Ikonik Lisboa offers an orthodox style that doesn’t try too hard, yet delivers high satisfaction through the comfort of the space and quality of ingredients.
Located within walking distance of the Web Summit venue, MEO Arena, and the International Exhibition Centre (FIL), the ability to eat a solid breakfast and head to the venue with time to spare is the biggest benefit for conference attendees.
For Future Guests
If you are undecided about where to stay for Web Summit or Lisbon sightseeing, this hotel is a strong candidate. I highly recommend choosing a plan with breakfast to start your morning elegantly in this modern space.
